photoshoot

I also added photos from the photoshoot which weren't edited, but were still quite effective.

final photo shoot

finally, I did a photoshoot of the final garment to express my theme and to portray accurately how the garment fits on the body. I
then edited 3 final photos to print and put into my portfolio.

final garment

Photos of the finished garment

This photo shows the difference between the sleeves, when it is hanging from a mannequin and when it is worn. This is to show the ruching of the sleeve itself and the effect it gives.

Back view of the garment, showing the concealed zip on the side seam. This wasn't as successful in my opinion, because of the way it sits on the dress, and how it sticks out around the shoulder curve on the garment. However, this was the only option for where to place the fastening on the garment, so it was necessary.
The drape of the chiffon pocket is beautiful, and really compliments the design. The structure of the organza works well, especially with the gathering of the sleeves, as it holds in place easily.

making continued.

I used binding to attach round the raw edges of the cuff hole, and into the neckline, for a neater finish and to avoid rolling hems. Also, the binding was necessary for the cuff holes because it was impossible for me to do a french seam, because i could not turn the sleeve through.

The box pleat on the back of the garment was a flash of transparency, a contrast of fabric and drape, and adding movement and shape into the garment.

Final garment

Although I have gone into more detail in the technical report for the contstruction of the garment, I documented the construction through images also.

The complex style of pattern cutting worked well to portray my design and the cut and shape I was hoping to achieve.

The sleeve and chiffon pocket worked well together and complimented each other; the cuff hole was placed in such a position so it appeared to be disappearing into the pocket rather than inside the dress. This is the deception element of the garment.

Transparency

Our fabric choice was a grey organza and grey polyester chiffon, which work well together and compliment the design, with the organza giving more structure to the garment and the chiffon giving a contrast of drape and texture.

Transparent: easily seen through, recognized, or detected: transparent lies.
The quality or state of being transparent.

restiction of the body

To be restricted within your body,
To feel confined within your skin,
To be unable to move,
To be unable to express emotion,
To be unable to speak.
To be resticted.
Without control of the body,
how can we express ourselves??

finished half toile

The completed half toile, which was successful. This meant that i could continue on to cut from the fabric and make the final garment. I changed the sleeve pattern to make it longer and increase the ruching effect on the sleeve, after constructing the half toile.

construction - half toile.

After constructing the final patterns, I made a half toile to test the patterns for proportion and fit, and to enable me to see if any changes need to be made to the pattern before i cut from the fabric and make the final garment. The construction was almost the same as for the sample garment, and is described in detail in my technical report.

masters of deception

Escher, Dali and artists of optical illusion.

Ponzo illusion - parallel lines converging, the brain is tricked into thinking that the higher part of the image is further away, even though the 2 images are the same size.

Graffiti stairs illusion - someone spraypainted the wall and floor to make it look like stairs are coming out of the wall.

To put someone in an awkward position

To make a situation difficult for someone; to make it difficult for someone to evade or avoid acting.

repetitive movement

Repetition of the same thought or physical action develops into a habit which, repeated frequently, becomes an automatic reflex.
